Formed in 1989, Das Ich are one of the founders of the early 1990s movement called Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (New German Death Art). They are celebrated as the starting spark of a new post Kraftwerk, post Neubauten era.

Das Ich majestically combines elements of Gothic, Electronic and early Industrial culture with poetry and theater. One of the first acts to revive German language in the genre, Das Ich’s art transcends music: their creative works meld theatre, poetry and makeup with Wagnerian grandeur and English romanticism. During live performances, apocalyptic visions (such as Gottes Tod/God is Dead) are expressed visually - and viciously.

With an intense vision and brilliant layering of haunting music and lyrics, Das Ich has managed to retain a thriving cult status throughout their long history. Bruno Kramm draws his lyrical influences from writers like George Trakl and Baudelaire. Stefan’s stage performance and costume are inspired by expressionist films such as Das Cabinet des Doktor Caligari and theater. The name Das Ich is a reference to Freudian psychology -- the fight of the primal, unconscious Es (Id) against the moral, conscious Ich (Ego).

Das Ich has grown into one of the most apocalyptic musical experiences known to man. Das Ich remain one the few truly unique bands in the vast pantheon of industrial/gothic German artists.
