The burning floods of bombastic symphonic arrangements are rapidly
progressing at light speed and will recover the Earth in no time.
The world is shaking under the hellish cadence of the hellish rhythms
and electronic beats. Radios are spreading vociferous harsh German
vocals in every corners of the world. Panic sets in. The Devilish
duo of Bruno Kramm and Stefan Ackermann are back in town! Heads
will roll and bodies will sweat on the dancefloors that this new
10-track album will like a tornado transform into a true inferno.
“Lava” is a subliminal elixir distilled from the band’s
rich maturity and sound force. This is probably Das Ich’s
most frontal album to date, with very straight tracks revealing
the charismatic brutality of Stefan’s vocals who as usual
brilliantly leads Bruno’s orchestral synth arrangements and
hammering beat patterns. Most songs are rather upbeat on this cd
which gives it an overall strict attitude and angry feel. This new
album also has a grandiose dimension which makes me perceiving it
as a milestone in their discography, a point of no return, where
they gathered al lthe best things they did so far, and it really
makes me curious about where they will go from here. This said,
I cannot even believe that the album is also available in its ‘Asche”
version holding even more club-formatted mixes of the album songs…
No moody synths on “Lava”, Das Ich want to put the dancefloors
on fire and will easily succeed with new satanic verses like “Fieber”,
“Vulkan” or yet “Lava”. I do believe in
Das Ich, let’s burn some heretics! side-line.com
Ever the productive duo, Das Ich return two years
after "Antichrist" with an even more melodic, bombast-driven
work. Where "Antichrist" veered off into the realms of
pop music, there are only hints of it on the "Lava Glut"
album. Stefan Ackermann sounds right at home furiously enunciating
his words to Bruno Kramm's impossibly perfect musical backing. This
is a pair who compliment each other as seamlessly as Horn and Veljanov.
Dissonance plays a larger role on this release. There are several
moments where you begin to think that the songs are going to sink
into nothing but noise and then, these beautiful classical interludes
jump out at you. Speaking of classical sound, Das Ich have added
a lot more to "Lava Glut" than they have previously used.
This is not to say that they have made a low-key album. Tracks like
"Fieber" gallop along, smashing dancefloor vertabrae and
crushing everything beneath. "Sehnsucht" is an excellent
example of the fine-tuned ability that Das Ich can conjure. It is
nuanced with some truly powerful intent.
There is another edition of "Lava Glut"
called "Lava Asche" with danceable versions which screams
along quite madly. Thoroughly engaging although I would have preferred
to have Terminal Choice and Wumpscut not do any remixes.
For the truly devoted, the limited edition of "Lava Asche"
comes with a bonus DVD called "Lava Addendum" with live
footage with a quite hilarious tourbook of their last tour of the
United States. A riveting live presence, Das Ich are by turns both
menacing and almost human at times. Their concert work does not
disappoint.
After 15 years, Das Ich have chosen to release a definitive new
album rather than a quick cash-out best of. Stellar work, Bruno
and Stefan. Here's to another 15. Peter Marks, releasemagazine.net
Das Ich are back with this follow-up to 2002's Anti'
Christ. ... What Das Ich delivers on this album are mid to fast
tempo dark orchestrated electro-industrial songs with tight programming,
heavy beats, dramatic melodies and snarling vocals. All of the lyrics
are in German, but I'm fine with this because there's a lot of emotion
in both the music and vocals that I can still feel the passion without
understanding the words.
What I like about Das Ich is that they have their own unique sound.
This allows them to stand out. Every song on this CD is good, but
some are more exciting than others. I especially enjoy the more
energetic club tracks. If you like dark electro-industrial with
German vocals, you should check this out. Darklight, on wrappedinwire.com
